The Homeschool Group meets on Fridays from 2:00pm-4:00pm in the Hall at Holy Redeemer.  The last Friday of the month is “Field Trip Friday”.  The goals of the ministry are twofold: 1. To create an opportunity for homeschooled kids to get together and play 2. To support parents that are homeschooling by providing a place to talk about how our week went, what is going well and what isn’t, a place to get ideas about how to teach a topic or curriculum that we liked or didn’t like.

Our time together is simple.  As families arrive, we have a period of unstructured play where the kids run around playing.  Once it seems like everyone has arrived, then the person signed up to host the activity for the day will gather the children and complete their planned activity.  Once the activity is completed, the children play again until it is time to clean up.  Parents have coffee, visit and offer assistance with the activity and clean up where needed.  Once everything is cleaned up, we finish our time together with a prayer where we pray for our upcoming school week and the kids offer intentions.  

During our time together we have had the privilege to enjoy so many different kinds of activities from science experiments, arts and crafts, learning about saints and liturgical feast days, learned about relics of saints and chalices, workouts and relays, meeting a retired seeing eye dog, learning and performing dances and skits, geography world map lesson, a visit from a Religious Sister, and more.
