Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish Turns 40!

It may come as a surprise to some long-time Kanata residents; Holy Redeemer Catholic parish just turned 40 years old. In 1981, when the corner of Eagleson and Rothesay was reserved to serve Kanata's Catholic community, Holy Redeemer sat at the easternmost edge of Kanata's borders. And as Kanata has grown these 40 years, so has Holy Redeemer, now boasting a community of more than 4000 families.

The Archbishop of Ottawa-Cornwall, his Grace Marcel Damphousse, presided at a Mass on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross -- Holy Redeemer's namesake -- to mark the occasion. Also in attendance were  Fr Geoff Kerslake and Fr Pierre Champoux (who was Pastor at Holy Redeemer from 2009-2016), alongside current Pastor Fr Paul Nwaeze, Associate Pastor Fr Jonathan Kelly, and Deacon James Kubina.
In his homily, the Archbishop reminded the faithful of the Parish's mission, which is prominently displayed on the  exterior of the church building on a banner overlooking Eagleson road, and the important role each of us plays in bringing about this mission through personal witness and  accepting to be true missionary disciples of Jesus Christ.

Our Community lives the Way, the Truth and the Life by reaching out with the Good News to Welcome, to Serve, and to Care.

The Mass was joyous and hopeful. And as no Catholic celebration is complete without food, the Knights of Columbus served refreshments and cookies outside. Parishioners lingered in the parking lot for an hour, chatting and posing for pictures.
