Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is a volunteer lay Catholic organization. Its object is the glory of God through sanctification of its members, developed by prayer and active service under the direction of the parish priest. Our Praesidium has been in the service of the parish for twenty-two (22) years now. We have 10 active members and 66 auxiliary (praying) members. The Legion of Mary membership is open to all practicing Catholics who wish to fulfill more fully their role in the Church's apostolate. It involves an evening weekly meeting and two hours of volunteer work per week. The Active Members of our Praesidium meet every Tuesday from 6:30-8 pm. We visit 6 retirement homes, and our duties include: assisting the priest celebrating Masses in those homes, conducting the Liturgy of the Word, distributing Holy Communion to residents and praying the Rosary with them. On special events, the members distribute religious literature, Miraculous medals, and rosaries. The Auxiliary Members pray the rosary and the Tessera (a small leaflet of prayers to our Blessed Mother) daily.

You are welcome to join us at one of our meeting to see what it's all about.

Pastoral Care Team

The Pastoral Care Team provides spiritual and emotional support, encouragement, friendship and listening ear by lay parishioners who assist our pastor in meeting the needs of our congregation. The members undergo a ten week training program to further develop both their listening skills and the ability to respond. In addition, members attend workshops and seminars to continue to grow in understanding and to develop new skills. The team meets on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. to coordinate visit plans to the Nursing Homes and Queensway-Carleton Hospital. The Team visits Stonehaven Manor and Garden Terrace as well as the Queensway-Carleton hospital. In addition the Team visits shut-ins when requested. This ministry also provides pastoral visit to grieving families to help them plan funerals. Each year we get new members to join this ministry, but more are welcome and needed. To use our services or to become a member of our team, contact the Parish office.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

Holy Redeemer Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Parish Conference mission is to live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and Joy. The mission of the Society implies that as Vincentians we see Christ in anyone who suffers, come together as a family, have personal contact with the poor, and help in all possible ways. Although we are a faith based organization, we serve anyone who requests our assistance. Our service to the poor (including those marginalized by society for a variety of reasons) takes the form of person-to-person contact, generally through home visits by a pair of Vincentians. When Vincentians visit a home on request, we bring material assistance (in the form of food or clothing vouchers, or making arrangements for free basic furniture) as well as love, respect, compassion and hope. Many of those we serve are lone-support moms but many are refugees, two-parent families and disabled adults. Many of these are working poor. Some seek our assistance once or twice, to get through an unexpected circumstance, while many others require our support and assistance on a longer-term basis. You are their hope. We act on behalf of the parish community. We are supported always through the prayers of our many friends, our benefactors, and our members. Please seriously consider joining our parish Conference.
