Holy Redeemer Parish Lectors

The people who read the First and Second Readings at Mass are termed Lectors or Proclaimers. They proclaim the Word of God to the congregation - their role is a vital and privileged one! Two Lectors are teamed for each Mass. One welcomes the parishioners to the church before Mass begins and reads the Announcements (after Communion). The other Lector proclaims the First and Second Readings, and sometimes the Psalm. We currently have about 30 Lectors - we heartily welcome more for any of the Masses!
Josephene Kealey is Head of the Ministry of Lectors. She can be reached at 613-836-4252.

Holy Redeemer Parish Baptism Team

Parish Baptism Team

Each year we have more then one hundred and fifty Baptisms at Holy Redeemer. Closely involved with all of these ceremonies are the members of the Parish Baptism Team. Team members take turns carrying out the following functions:

  • Visit the homes of candidates for Baptism to welcome the parents and children into our Parish Community and to obtain the information needed by the Church before the Baptism can take place.
  • Participate in monthly training sessions where parents learn about the Sacrament of Baptism and have their questions about the ceremony answered.
  • Assist in the preparations at the Church on the day of the Baptisms.

Members of the Baptism Team usually give only one or two evenings of their time each month and one Sunday afternoon about every two months. If you would like to share in the work of this Ministry simply contact the Parish Office or call the Ministry Head - Franca Walsh.

Holy Redeemer Music Ministry

Music Ministry - 11:00 a.m. Choir

Celebrating over 37 years of musical ministry, Holy Redeemer Senior Choir sings at the 11:00 am Mass on Sundays and in all major liturgical celebrations, September to June. The Choir began with 7 members under the direction of Pat Graham, singing at the 5:00 p.m. mass of the Mission of St. Martin de Porres Parish. The membership has grown with several directors leading them inclu ding Janet Ramsahoye and now, Maria DeLuca. Today, the 38 member four-part harmony choir, aging from 21 to 80 years, can reflect upon its contributions to parish life and community; singing at the first mass on Christmas Eve 1985, producing 2 CDs, annual Advent evenings of reflection, and bi-annual Spring charitable fund-raising concerts. Participating in many parish celebrations, providing 'musical nonsense', the Choir earned the name 'Beyond Redemption'. In the early years, the Choir took their love of mu sic to New York, Sudbury, and Cincinnati. Since the retirement of accompanist Jean Adams, we have the excellent talents of Gennaro Busa. A number of members sing or perform at other venues in the Ottawa area and some participate in the Parish Funeral Choir.

We believe that the music we sing, as an expression of our faith, is both a gift from and an offering to God. Our mission is to lead and encourage congregation to worship through participating in musical liturgy. We welcome any parishioner familiar with liturgical music to join the ranks of this devoted and enthusiastic Choir.
