First Communion at Holy Redeemer Parish
Children who have been baptized in the Catholic faith and are at least 7 years of age are invited to take the next step in their initiation as Christians through the celebration of First Communion. *NB – If your child is 7 years old and is not yet baptized, please contact the parish office (613 836-1764) or email cic@holyredeemer.ca as soon as possible. A member of the Christian Initiation of Children Ministry will contact you to arrange a meeting. Recognizing that parents are the first educators of the faith for their children, the following process welcomes children along with their parents as they prepare to celebrate not only First Communion but also First Reconciliation (Confession, Penance). The process is appropriate for children between the ages of 7 and 9 who have been receiving regular religious instruction in a Catholic school or who are highly catechized (already have much knowledge concerning the Catholic faith and live the faith with their family on a daily basis). Parents and children together will participate in five Saturday workshops at the church and attend mass regularly at Holy Redeemer Parish. First Reconciliation takes place in May during one liturgical celebration at the church. First Communions are celebrated in June at regular Sunday masses.
The process begins with an information session in December each year and workshops begin in January. Questions? Please contact our Christian Initiation of Children Team at cic@holyredeemer.ca
