As a diverse parish, Holy Redeemer would like to celebrate Black History Month! Special Thanks to Joy Sawyer for her research into these Canadian trailblazers (there are far too many to mention!)
Rosemary Brown
-British Columbian Politician (NDP candidate - won her riding in 1972)
-Founder of the BCAAP (British Columbia Association for the Advancement of Coloured People)
-Distinction award from the YWCA in 1989
-Multiple Doctorates of Law from notable universities such as: UBC, Queens, McGill, Toronto, Dalhousie, Victoria
-Many, many remarkable accomplishments and awards including the Order of British Columbia and the Order of Canada
-Canada created a commemorative stamp of her

-Canadina Civil Rights activist and Businesswoman
-First candian woman EVER to appear on the face of a banknote (now on the $10 bill)
Harry Jerome
-Record breaking Olympic track and field sprinter
-Physical education teacher
-Broke 7 world records throughout his career
